CANOEING
Chris Hughes Multi Activity Services (CHMAS) canoeing courses are a great way to have fun, learn new skills and have been used by many folk to kick start their own canoe adventures. We can't promise to make you an expert but you will be amazed by how your skills/confidence have developed during your time with us.

FOUNDATION SKILLS
Paddling a canoe can seem an unconquerable skill as it just seems to have a mind of its own. When you book on a CHMAS canoe foundation skills course you will soon be moving the craft with ease and have lots more confidence in your ability. Our foundation skills courses are aimed at complete beginners or for those with some experience who wish to progress their skills to the next level.

INTRODUCTION TO WHITE WATER
Paddling on moving water or bouncing down the rapids is just so exhilarating for those with the knowledge to do it safely. If you'd like to acquire this knowledge then our introduction to white water canoeing course could be for you. The course has been designed for people with some flat water experience to gain the skills and confidence required to tackle white water (up to Grade 2).

BCU PERFORMANCE & LEADERSHIP AWARDS
For many just messing about in boats is enough but others like to have a bench mark standard to compare their performance against. If that's you then we can provide the British Canoe Union (BCU) personal performance awards from 1 Star to 4 Star.
1 Star
This is an entry level award and can be undertaken in either canoe or kayak.2 Star
This award looks at the fundamental skills of canoe & kayak and is a pre requirement for those wishing to become a Level 1 Coach.3 Star
This is a discipline specific award and once achieved paddlers can leave their 'L Plates' at home.4 Star
This is a discipline specific award that has separate training and assessment elements and is the appropriate award for those wishing to lead groups on up to Grade 2 water.For further details of the syllabus see the BCU Website by clicking here.

BCU -SAFETY & RESCUE COURSE
CHMAS are pleased to offer the BCU Foundation Safety & Rescue Training Course (FSRT) and White Water Safety & Rescue Training Course (WWSRT).
Foundation Safety & Rescue Training
The FSRT course is an intensive one day course to prepare participants for rescue scenarios in a flat water environment for canoes and kayaks. Over the course of the day you will look at safe rescue principals, bank & boat based rescues and improvised towing. The course is extremely practical, full of content and good practice.

White Water Safety & Rescue Training
The WWSRT is an intense two day course to prepare a participants for rescues scenarios in a whitewater environment be it in a kayak or Canoe. Over the two days you will work on your safety awareness, practice some personal survival techniques, learn effective throwline rescues, boat rescue and live bait techniques. The course is extremely practical (learning by doing), full of content and good practice.
